Eddie Garcia is going to lose it all. His weekend binge drinking is getting out of hand, and his wife is on the verge of leaving him.

When he finally settles on kicking the habit, he figures out just what he needs to stay on track—running.

As a former student track star and current teacher at the same school, Smithfield High, Eddie sets his sights on restarting the school's cross-country team.  A program that has been lost in this poor school in a poor town. With help from his family, his principal, and his newly formed team, Eddie becomes Coach Garcia, developing hard-nosed, determined ways to have the audacity to try to make the state championship in his first year coaching. But when a rogue parent threatens to upend Eddie’s coaching dream, he learns just what he’s made of—and how to keep going despite all odds and underdog status.
